Ministry to the Sick
St. Gabriel’s Parish ministers to the Catholic patients of North York General Hospital together with the hospital’s Pastoral Care Team. Patients who register as Roman Catholic are automatically visited by parishioners to determine whether they wish to receive the Sacrament of the Sick, Communion, or Reconciliation. Communion is brought to the hospital three times a week. The Pastor usually visits the hospital each Friday morning and as needed in emergencies.
Parishioners admitted to other hospitals are encouraged to request the prayers of the parish. Patients’ sacramental needs are usually met through the Pastoral Care department of that particular hospital.
