Meeting for First Reconciliation and Holy Communion

Thursday, January 20th, at 7:30 PM

On Thursday, January 20th at 7:30 there will be a meeting for parents only of children who will be receiving the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Holy Communion for the first time. The meeting will be held in the Church.
The books We Discover God’s Path and We Share in the Eucharist will be distributed at that time.

Mathew’s gospel is filled with powerful imagery. A guiding star, wise strangers from a distant land searching for a new born king, an insecure king, craftily seeking the advice of his priests and scribes as to when and where such a king might be born. The wise men’s search ends at a simple home in Bethlehem where they find the child with his proud mother and father. They do him homage and offer their symbolic gifts. Then they go home, their mission fulfilled.

The Refugee Holy Family

We’ve just had too much happening in too short a time – our liturgical feasts come too close together to give us a chance to absorb the wonders we celebrate. Yesterday we celebrated the wonder of the Son of God emptying himself of divinity and clothing himself our humanity – flesh of our flesh, bone of our bone. Through his passion and death he would make real the wonder St. Paul speaks of in his letter to the Ephesians, “before the world began God chose us in Christ to be his adopted sons and daughters.” Christ emptied himself of divinity that we might come to share in his riches. Christ entered our families that we might be members of His.
