CASSEROLES FOR THE GOOD SHEPHERD CENTRE

Your prepared casseroles (frozen please) will be collected at the Masses next weekend, April 28th/29th, for delivery to the Good Shepherd Centre. Three recipes are available on the St. Gabriel’s web site. Printed copies of the recipes are also available here in the Parish Office. Please remember to mark the label on the pan lid with the name of the casserole. More volunteers are encouraged to get a copy of the casserole recipe and a pan and give it a try. For more information, please contact Irene Albrecht at 416 221-2791

SHARELIFE CHALLENGE

A donor has challenged parishioners, schools, employee groups and corporate supporters to match up to $650,000 in new and increased contributions to the 2012 ShareLife Campaign. Should we realize the maximum potential of this effort, over one million new dollars would be raised for the work of our agencies. At a time when our social service agencies are reporting increased demands for their services, these new funds would help to introduce new programs and reduce waiting times for services for the marginalized in our communities.

WORKING WONDERS FOR PEOPLE WITH SPECIAL NEEDS…

Vincent started having mental health issues in his early teens but, in his family, those problems were not discussed and “you didn’t ask for help.” While Vincent held down jobs in kitchens and stores, he lived in a household with a drug dealer. Fearing arrest, he fled to Toronto only to recognize that he had a problem with drugs, too. Vincent found help in Covenant House’s shelter, healthcare centre and Arts & Minds program. “Covenant House has done more for me than I can ever say. I’m getting my life back together.” In Toronto alone, there are at least 1,500 homeless youth on any given night. On an annual basis, ShareLife agencies provide food, shelter, guidance, care and counselling to more than 10,000 young people in the Greater Toronto Area.

Next Sunday, April 29, 2012 is ShareLife Sunday.
Please give generously. You can work WONDERS!

ShareLife Total for 2011: $184,642
ShareLife To Date: $62,380
