HOLOCAUST EDUCATION WEEK

St. Gabriel’s Parish
Wednesday, November 4th at 7:30 PM.

For many years, St. Gabriel’s Parish has participated in Holocaust Education Week. On Wednesday, November 4th at 7:30 PM, we will present a two part program, co-sponsored with Temple Har Zion.

The first part of the program, Sisters of Sion: the Story of Rescue, will highlight the contribution of the Sisters of Sion in rescuing Jews in France from 1940 to 1944. The guest speaker will be Sister Anne Denise Rinckwald, former provincial of the European Province of the Sisters of Sion Congregation, now living in Krakow. In 2007, she was nominated as a “person of reconciliation” by the Jewish-Christian Council in Poland.

The second part of the program, Jewish relations in Poland Today, will deal with life in Poland after WWII and with Christian-Jewish relations in Poland after the war and during the last twenty years. The guest speaker will be Sister Anna Bodzinska, a member of the Polish Council of Christian and Jews who is responsible for the formation of Sisters of Sion in the European Province.

All are invited to attend.

SHEPHERD’S TRUST COLLECTION

Weekend of November 14th/15th

The Shepherd’s Trust is an archdiocesan retirement program that provides elderly and infirm priests with the financial support they require to lead a dignified life after their many years of service to us.
This collection will take place in our parish the weekend of November 14th/15th. The contributions received from our parish, plus other “religious order” parishes, will be allocated to each order’s retirement fund. Please note that all contributions are tax-deductible. Thank you for caring for those who always cared for us!

SPONSORING A REFUGEE FAMILY

Day after day, we hear of people in other parts of the world whose lives are threatened because of war, political beliefs, or ethnic conflicts. Canada prides itself on accepting tens of thousands of refugees each year, and tries to provide for them
a space to rebuild their lives. Thirty years ago, St. Gabriel’s sponsored its first refugee family – one from Vietnam. We have helped other families since.

At this time, the parish is exploring again the feasibility of sponsoring another refugee family. If you are interested, and wish to be part of this effort, please contact Fatima Lee at (416) 221-8866 ext 228.

GOOD SHEPHERD CENTRE CASSEROLES

Thank you to the volunteers who prepared 35 casseroles for October. For November, your prepared casseroles (frozen please) will be collected at the Masses on the weekend of November 28th/29th for delivery to the Good Shepherd Centre. If you require more information or would like to get a copy of the recipe and a casserole pan, please contact Irene Albrecht at 416-221-2791.

WORLD MISSION SUNDAY

Thank you very much for your generous support of World Mission Sunday last week. Your prayers and donations will make a huge contribution to the growth of the Church and to the well-being of the poor of the world. Please continue to pray for all those who serve in mission countries that they may remain steadfast in their vocation to bring Christ’s message of love to those they serve – the world’s most vulnerable.
