THANK YOU FROM THE LEPROSY MISSION OF CANADA

What an amazing gift! Thank you very much for the stamps you sent to us and for bringing us closer to a world without leprosy. We are very grateful for all your effort to save the stamps, trim them and send them to us. We have raised over $10,673 so far in 2009. Our goal is to raise $12,000 in 2009, which will provide cure and care for 37 leprosy patients! Through medical treatments, education and rehabilitation, your recent gift helps restore dignity and courage to those who have suffered much too long. We are happy to accept any and all trimmed stamps, leaving no less than ¼ inch and no more than ½ inch paper border. Please keep on sending us your used postage stamps so that we can work towards the day when leprosy is eradicated.

THE GREEN CORNER

Our Commitment to a Greener Planet

When [Canada] ratified the [Kyoto Protocol] in 2002, then Prime Minister Jean Chrétien vowed that Canada would reduce emissions by 6 per cent by 2012 over the 1990 base year. They are up 26 per cent or more instead.

“Canada did not take its Kyoto obligations seriously, particularly under Stephen Harper, and that goes against Canada’s image,” said Saleemul Huq, a lead author of the reports of the Intergovernmental Panel of Climate Change, the United Nations scientific body that assesses climate change.

Prime Minister Stephen Harper has committed to a 20 per cent reduction by 2020, but from a new base year – 2006 – when the Canadian economy was on fire. In late 2007 Canada blocked a Commonwealth resolution to support binding emissions targets for industrialized countries.
