In this week’s bulletin, the Eco-Sabbath and the National Catholic Mission next Sunday and an invitation to learn about the Orthodox Churches.
This weekend we celebrate the feast of St. Gabriel. St. Gabriel, a member of the Passionist Community, was born Francis Possenti on March 1, 1838 in Assisi, and died February 27, 1862 at the age of 24. He had a special devotion to Mary and chose as his religious name Gabriel of the Sorrowful Virgin. He is remembered for his enthusiasm in life and his extraordinary generosity. Pope John XXIII proclaimed him as a special Patron of Youth.
Thanks again, for your generous support of Fr. Rick Frechette’s hospital and his many other works. So far, you good people have donated $85,019 to help Fr. Rick and his work at St. Damian’s Hospital for Children. The Archdiocese has raised 3.7 million dollars for Haiti.
-Fr. Paul
Here is a bit of news from Fr. Rick:
We have retrieved the bodies of Mikhail, Delourdes and Ronald Ferdinand (the siblings of former orphan and NPSF employee Joseph). They currently are lying in our hospital chapel for burial today at St. Helene. These have been very emotional days for us, especially for Joseph and his older brother Dodo. Yesterday at mass, the chapel was packed with former orphans, crying and comforting, showing that the family bonds we have tried to instill are real, and are clearly seen when it counts. We stood before their lifeless bodies without words, with nothing but each other and our faith, hope and love. These really heal and give courage. It is amazing to see it as a true and deep dynamic.
Thank you for your most generous contribution to our Haiti Hospital relief Fund to assist Fr. Rick in his ministry to the children and other victims of the recent earthquake. Very Rev. Joseph R. Jones, C.P. Provincial

The Wonder of Life…..
“When I went to the Rose, it seemed like all the feelings of guilt, failure and remorse went away. I grew stronger and felt in my heart that choosing life was the best decision. It was relieving to see other moms being wonderful parents and getting ahead at the same time. Now I am a confident mother. My child is growing healthy and strong. I am graduating next year and will be going to college. I know life will never be easy, but through the Rose, I have support.”

Part of human sin has been to see ourselves as separate from the rest of creation, seeing the natural world only as a source of profit and personal gain. To overcome this sin, we need to affirm our place within the dynamic web of creation which supports and sustains all life…. Ecological destruction and the loss of biodiversity obscure our ability to see and experience God and are an affront to the Creator. The fate of the natural world and human life are fully intertwined. Ecological destruction harms human life, and human social injustice has ecological consequences.
