This week in the bulletin: an advent evening of reflection, the new series Deepening our Faith, and an opportunity to learn about the Story of Mass.
Tuesday, November 30th from 7:30 to 9:00 PM
The few weeks leading to Christmas are always such a busy time for us — shopping, entertaining, that we often forget the true reason for the season.
To prepare our hearts and minds for Christmas, the parish will be hosting an ADVENT EVENING OF REFLECTION with the theme Jesus: The Name and Face of ‘God with us’ on Tuesday November 30, 2010 from 7:30 to 9:00 PM, to be facilitated by Father Jack Costello, S.J.
Father Costello is an excellent speaker, and one who integrates spirituality and the living out of our faith in modern times. He is currently serving as Adjunct Professor at Regis College, and the Director of Jesuit Refugee and Migrant Service. The evening will be a great opportunity to pause, listen, and look deeply into our lives to find the room there for the birth of the Christ Child.
If you are planning to attend, please contact the Fatima Lee at 416- 221-8866, Ext. 228 or by email fatimalee@bellnet.ca. We would like to have an estimate of the number attending so as to set up for the event. Suggested donation: $10 or whatever your means allow.
In past years, Tuesday evenings and Wednesday mornings have been devoted to religious topics decided on by those who wish to participate.
The Story of the Mass Tuesday, November 23rd at 7:30 PM Wednesday, November 24th at 10:30 AM

November 20th/21st
There will be a collection this weekend, November 20th /21st for the Shepherd’s Trust. Religious order priests such as our own Passionist Community have faithfully served parish communities like St. Gabriel’s for many years. The Shepherd’s Trust recognizes their faithfulness, their many years of service to us, and the strong ties we have to them by ensuring that funds collected in parishes served by religious order priests, be given to those orders as a contribution towards the retirement of our priests. Please be as generous as your means allow.
Your prepared chicken rice casseroles (frozen please) will be collected at all the Masses next weekend, November 27th/28th for delivery to the Good Shepherd Centre. More volunteers are encouraged to pick up a copy of the casserole recipe and a pan. Why not give it a try? For more information, please contact Irene Albrecht at 416-221-2791.
The Society of St. Vincent de Paul tries to bring help to our neighbours who are in urgent need of assistance. Anyone looking for help should call 416-740-6006 and leave their name and phone number. They will then be contacted in order to determine their needs and arrange a meeting.
November 23rd at 2:00 PM Blessed Trinity Parish Hall
The next meeting of the North York Retired Men’s Club will be held at Blessed Trinity Parish Hall on Tuesday, November 23rd at 2:00 PM. Jodie Sales will speak on “Security Features of the Bank Note.” Prospective members are cordially invited to attend.
November 26th – 28th, 2010
A Religious Discernment Weekend for young women will be held next weekend, November 26th to November 28th, 2010 given by a team of Sisters of St. Joseph. For further information, please contact Sr. Dorothy at 416-927-0720 or dschweitzer@csj-to.ca Also see the flyer on the bulletin board.
In 2011, we will celebrate the 60th anniversary of St. Gabriel’s Parish. A parish pictorial directory would be a wonderful way to commemorate this milestone and the directory would be a valuable historical keepsake for future generations to enjoy and cherish. IPC Canada Photo Services Inc. provides this service to the Church at no cost to the individual or to the Church. These directories will not be sold. Each participating family (household) will receive a free copy of the directory and an opportunity to purchase additional studio-quality portraits at less than studio prices. There is no obligation to purchase. Tables have been set up in the Gathering Space to give you an opportunity to make an appointment after all the Masses this weekend to have your photo taken.
Every week we see many familiar faces at church, but we never have a chance to get to know them. This year as a pilot project, the parish is hosting four “coffee and cookies” gathering, one for each of the weekend masses, so that everyone can have the opportunity to mingle and chat, and be a part of community.
The first one, held on October 24th for those who attended the 8:30 AM Mass, was very well received. The second gathering will be held after the 10:30 AM Mass this Sunday, November 21st, 2010.
Please join us if you can! See you there.
