“JESUS IS THE REASON FOR THE SEASON”
AN ADVENT EVENING OF REFLECTION
Tuesday, November 30th from 7:30 to 9:00 PM
The few weeks leading to Christmas are always such a busy time for us — shopping, entertaining, that we often forget the true reason for the season.
To prepare our hearts and minds for Christmas, the parish will be hosting an
ADVENT EVENING OF REFLECTION with the theme:
“Jesus: The Name and Face of ‘God with us’” on November 30, 2010 (Tuesday), from 7:30 to 9 pm, to be facilitated by Father Jack Costello, S.J.
Father Costello is an excellent speaker, and one who integrates spirituality and the living out of our faith in modern times. He is currently serving as Adjunct professor at Regis College, and the Director of Jesuit Refugee and Migrant Service. The evening will be a great opportunity to pause, listen, and look deeply into our lives to find the room there for the birth of the Christ Child.
If you are planning to attend, please contact the Parish Office at 416- 221-8866 or by email stgabrielsparish@bellnet.ca. We would like to have an estimate of the number attending so as to set up for the event. Suggested donation: $10 or whatever your means allow.
AN INVITATION TO LEARN!
In past years, Tuesday evenings and Wednesday mornings have been devoted to religious topics decided on by those who wish to participate.

Your prayers and donations will make a huge contribution to the growth of the Church and to the well-being of the poor of our world. Please continue to pray for all those who serve in mission countries that they may remain steadfast in their vocation to bring Christ’s message of love to those they serve – the world’s most vulnerable. For more information please go to www.worldmissionsocieties.ca.
SHEPHERDS’ TRUST COLLECTION
November 20th/21st
Religious order priests such as our own Passionist Community have faithfully served parish communities like St. Gabriel’s for many years. The Shepherd’s Trust recognizes their faithfulness, their many years of service to us, and the strong ties we have to them by ensuring that funds collected in parishes served by religious order priests, be given to those orders as a contribution towards the retirement of our priests. Please be as generous as your means allow.
GOOD SHEPHERD CENTRE CASSEROLES
Thank you to the volunteers who prepared 53 casseroles for October. For November, your prepared casseroles (frozen please) will be collected at the Masses on the weekend of November 27/28 for delivery to the Good Shepherd Centre. More volunteers are encouraged to become active in helping to feed our less fortunate sisters and brothers. If you require more information or would like to get a copy of the recipe and a casserole pan, please contact Irene Albrecht at 416 221-2791.
SOCIETY OF ST. VINCENT DE PAUL
The Society of St. Vincent de Paul tries to bring help to our neighbours who are in urgent need of assistance. Anyone looking for help should call 416-740-6006 and leave their name and phone number. They will then be contacted in order to determine their needs and arrange a meeting.
PHOTO CHURCH DIRECTORY
In 2011, we will celebrate the 60th anniversary of St. Gabriel’s Parish. A parish pictorial directory would be a wonderful way to commemorate this milestone and the directory would be a valuable historical keepsake for future generations to enjoy and cherish.
IPC Canada Photo Services Inc. provides this service to the Church at no cost to the individual or to the Church. Each participating family (household) will receive a free copy of the directory and an opportunity to purchase additional studio-quality portraits at less than studio prices. There is no obligation to purchase. Tables will be set up after all the Masses this weekend in the Gathering Space to give you an opportunity to make an appointment to have your photo taken in November.

NEW: COFFEE AFTER WEEKEND MASSES
Every week we see many familiar faces at church, but we never have a chance to get to know them. This year as a pilot project, the parish is hosting four “coffee and cookies” gathering, one for each of the weekend masses, so that everyone can have the opportunity to mingle and chat, and be a part of community.
The first one, held on Oct 24 for those who attended the 8:30AM Mass, was very well received. The second gathering will be held after the 10:30 AM Mass on Sunday, November 21, 2010.
Please join us if you can! See you there.
