St. Gabriel’s Parish Wednesday, November 3rd at 7:30 PM
For many years, St. Gabriel’s Parish has participated in Holocaust Education Week. On Wednesday, November 3rd at 7:30 PM we will present My Personal Testimony a program co-sponsored by Marilyn & Stephen Sinclair in memory of Ernie Weiss. After their expulsion from their home in Fascist Italy, Miriam Frankel and her family found themselves trapped in Hungarian-occupied Czechoslovakia for the next four years. Her father was taken to a forced labour camp and when he returned, the family was deported to Auschwitz-Birkenau in May 1944. Surviving two additional concentration camps, Miriam was liberated in Salzwedel, Germany in April 1945. The sole survivor of her family, Miriam came to Canada as a Jewish war orphan in 1948.
In past years, Tuesday evenings and Wednesday mornings have been devoted to religious topics decided on by those who wish to participate.

We do have a small library which is available usually during Office hours. We recently acquired an extensive number of books by or about Thomas Merton and other current books by authors such as Jean Vanier.

BOOK OF REMEMBRANCE There will be a Book of Remembrance placed on the altar for the month of November. You are invited to write the names of your deceased relatives and friends in the book. They will be remembered at all the Masses celebrated in November.
The English Rosary Group will meet on Saturday, November 6th at 3:15 PM in the Library. The Chinese Rosary Group will meet on Sunday, November 7th at 3:30 PM in the Gabriel Room.

On the first Sunday of each month, the Passionist Centre for Ecology and Spirituality facilitates a 30 minute reflection and discussion prompted by the readings for that Sunday’s liturgy. The guided reflection brings an ecological perspective to the readings. All are welcome.
Catholic Cemeteries – Archdiocese of Toronto wishes to invite all families to participate in the annual All Souls’ Day Mass on Saturday, November 6th 2010 at 2:00 PM at Holy Cross Cemetery, Thornhill, 905-889-7467. The Liturgy will be celebrated in English and Italian. The blessing of the new Mausoleum phase will follow Mass. All are welcome.

There will be a second collection on the weekend of November 6th/7th for the maintenance of the Church.

Alex Seredenko, our accompanist at the 12:30 Mass will be the featured pianist with the Toronto Symphony Youth Orchestra on Thursday, December 9th (matinee) and Saturday, December 11th (evening). In 2011, we will celebrate the 60th anniversary of St. Gabriel’s Parish. A parish pictorial directory would be a wonderful way to commemorate this milestone and the directory would be a valuable historical keepsake for future generations to enjoy and cherish. IPC Canada Photo Services Inc. provides this service to the Church at no cost. Each participating family (household) will receive a free copy of the directory and an opportunity to purchase additional studio-quality portraits at less than studio prices. There is no obligation to purchase. Tables will be set up after all the Masses this weekend in the Gathering Space to give you an opportunity to make an appointment to have your photo taken in November.

His Grace, Archbishop Thomas Collins will celebrate a Mass to support women experiencing violence and abuse at St Paul’s Basilica on Wednesday, November 3rd at 5:00 PM. A reception will follow the Mass. Please see the poster on the Bulletin board or go to www.cfsofto.org for further information.

The theme this year is “Our Common Voice: Achieving Social Justice Together”. The key note address will be given by Imam Sayyid Muhammad Rizvi. Find out what the seven faiths that make up MOSAIC have to say about Social Justice and what our partner congregations are doing to make a difference.
Visit displays from local Social Justice Groups and find out how to get involved. Special interactive programs for children are available. The program ends with a pot-luck vegan supper.
If coming, please bring a dish to share with others but with absolutely no meat, poultry, eggs, fish, dairy products or alcohol due to dietary laws and no nut products because many people are allergic to these. Think green. Avoid disposable dishes.
