Thursday, November 3rd at 7:30 PM St. Gabriel’s Parish
For many years, St. Gabriel’s Parish has participated in Holocaust Education Week. On Thursday, November 3rd at 7:30 PM we will present The Nazi Genocide of European Roma and Sinti and Its Historical Roots featuring Guest Speaker, Dr. Gerhard Baumgartner, historian, journalist and lecturer at the Joanneum University in Graz, Austria.
The lecture will cover the main stages of the persecution of the Roma and Sinti and the circumstances which lead to their final deportation and murder in Nazi death camps in Poland. The presentation aims at integrating the history of this genocide within the wider frame of the Jewish Holocaust, pointing out similarities and crucial differences. New historical images, mostly unearthed during the last decade by German and Austrian researchers, will be used to illustrate this tragic history.
This program is supported by the Roma Community Centre.
The Gloria
When we begin using the new English translation of the Roman Missal on November 27th 2011, one of the biggest changes you’ll notice is the words of the Gloria.
The Gloria is used on all Sundays of the year, except for those during Advent and Lent and a few other rare Occasions. The text has changed enough that composers in Canada have written new musical settings for it that we will rehearse at times before Mass. The Gloria is a joyful hymn of praise and honour to God. When we say it or sing it we honour God’s importance. In the Gloria we raise, with one voice, the song of the angels.
For more information on the Roman Missal and its changes, visit www.archtoronto.org/romanmissal anytime to continue your reflection.

Participation in the PAG provides a regular dependable cash flow of contributions to the parish and enables us to better manage the Parish finances. PAG brochures and sign-up forms are available in the Parish Office and on the tables at the back of the Church. Thank you for your generosity and support.
My heartfelt thanks to all of you who checked drawers, looked in coat pockets, cupboards and closets to find eyeglasses that you no longer need or use. Rest assured that, by the middle of November, there will be many Ghanaians in the remote villages of northern Ghana sporting new glasses. Who knows… they may be wearing yours!
In two weeks, the Ghana Medical Mission will see over 9000 people in four different villages. You can only imagine what a difference being able to see properly will mean to them.

On the behalf of the Christians in the Holy Land, they very much appreciate your help by purchasing their Olive woodcrafts. Your help has made a difference to many families in Bethlehem and surrounding areas. Words cannot express how thankful they are for the opportunity you gave them to display the religious woodcrafts at St. Gabriel’s Parish. Please keep the Christians in the Holy Land in your prayers as you are always in theirs.
God Bless, Holy Land Christian Families
At this time of year, many are receiving Christmas cards. Please remember to bring us your used postage stamps. These are passed on to the Leprosy Mission of Canada helping them work towards the day when leprosy is eradicated. They are happy to accept any and all trimmed stamps, leaving no less than ¼ inch and no more than ½ inch paper border. Stamps may be deposited in the basket on the cabinet just outside the Parish Office.
Today in St. Gabriel’s Parish is World Mission Sunday. Every Catholic community and parish throughout the world takes part in World Mission Sunday. It is a global effort to bring spiritual and material help to our brothers and sisters who long for hope and love that comes from knowing Christ’s love for them.
Your kind support will assist all missionaries across the world.
It will help new churches to grow and become strong and vital faith communities. Please continue to pray for all those who serve in mission countries and please be generous in your support of their work. May God bless you always.
Did you have a photo taken for our Parish Directory? If you have not received yours, please pick it up in the Parish Office as soon as possible. Thank you.
