THOMAS COLLINS BECOMES CARDINAL

This weekend Thomas Collins, Archbishop of Toronto, is being elevated to the College of Cardinals in a ceremony (consistory) in Rome. We offer our thoughts and prayers for our shepherd as he takes on this important new role. You can follow coverage of the consistory events online or learn more about local celebrations in our Archdiocese this March in honour of this event at: www.archtoronto.org/cardinal.

ASH WEDNESDAY

February 22nd, 2012

February 22nd is Ash Wednesday. Special Masses will be celebrated at 12:00 Noon and 7:30 PM with the distribution of ashes. There will be no
9:00 AM Mass that day. During Lent, we encourage your attendance at our daily weekday Masses at 9:00 AM.

DAYS OF FAST AND ABSTINENCE

During Lent there are two days of Fast and Abstinence, Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. Abstinence means to abstain from eating meat. Fasting means that your two smaller meals combined should not be larger than your main meal. There is no eating between meals. This applies to healthy people between the ages of 16 and 75.

STATIONS OF THE CROSS

Stations of the Cross will take place each Friday evening during Lent at 7:30 PM.

We also encourage your attendance at our daily Mass throughout Lent.

AN INVITATION TO LEARN!

In past years, Tuesday evenings and Wednesday mornings have been devoted to religious topics decided on by those who wish to participate.

PRE-AUTHORIZED GIVING OPTION

The “Pre-Authorized Giving” Plan (PAG), authorized and supported by the Archdiocese of Toronto, is a direct debit program. It allows parishioners to make their regular offertory donations by automatic monthly bank withdrawal on or about the 20th of each month. Participation in the PAG provides a regular dependable cash flow of contributions to the parish and enables us to better manage the Parish finances. PAG brochures and sign-up forms are available in the Parish Office and on the tables at the back of the Church.

OFFERTORY ENVELOPES FOR 2012

Please pick up your 2012 Offertory Boxed Envelopes in the Gabriel Room. If you are not currently using parish envelopes and wish to have a set issued for next year, please contact the Parish Office. This is the most effective way to keep track of your donations. If you have recently changed your address or phone number, it would be helpful if you would let us know at this time.
We would like to remind you not to use envelopes from previous years as these numbers have been reassigned to other families.

PAG MEMBERS

If you are on the Pre- Authorized Giving Plan, you will still receive a smaller green box of envelopes, since these include Initial, New Year’s, Christmas, Easter and Maintenance envelopes. You will find your box on the table beside the regular offertory boxes in the Gabriel Room.

TAX RECEIPTS

Tax receipts for donations made in 2011 will be mailed to you by the end of February. If you have changed your address or are moving out of the Parish, please notify the Parish Office at
416-221-8866.

THANK YOU!

Thank you to all who made donations for balloon animals at the Lunar New Year party. In total, $93.06 was raised for the Society of St. Vincent de Paul.

CASSEROLES FOR THE GOOD SHEPHERD CENTRE

Your prepared casseroles (frozen please) will be collected at the Masses next weekend for delivery to the Good Shepherd Centre. More volunteers are encouraged to get a copy of a casserole recipe and a pan and give it a try. For more information, please contact Irene Albrecht at 416 221-2791.

A number of our chefs have requested a different recipe. Two additional recipes plus our original recipe are available here. Choose the recipe you wish to prepare but remember to mark the label on the pan lid with the name of the casserole. Printed copies of the recipes are also available at the Parish Office.
