St. Michael’s Cathedral Basilica
65 Bond St., Toronto

As part of Marriage Sunday 2022 celebrations, Bishop Robert Kasun, CSB, will preside at a special Mass to honour married couples celebrating milestone anniversaries (25th, 40th, 50th, 60th or 60+) in 2022.

Due to social distancing measures, cathedral attendance is limited to pre-registered couples celebrating milestone wedding anniversaries and a maximum of one (1) guest per celebrant couple. Registration is now open. Given the limited attendance at the cathedral, we encourage milestone celebrants to register early. Those who are not able to register may join the celebration via livestream Mass here: www.stmichaelscathedral.com/live. The broadcast will begin at 2:15 PM.

Please visit www.archtoronto.org/marriage to register and to access resources for parishes and couples.

Thank you for your generous support of Rosalie Hall and the Good Shepherd Centre.

Rosalie Hall assists young parents and their children to realize their potential through the provision of a wide range of child development, community, residential and educational services.

Good Shepherd provides hot meals and shelter for the homeless in our city as well as a chance to start again through the Resettlement or DARE Programs.

Your food donations are more important than ever as Covid 19 continues and numbers of needy people continue to increase. Please check the expiry dates before donating since we cannot pass on food that has expired.

This Lent, let’s put people and planet first!

“For us Christians, in order that our faith in Jesus might be expressed in action, I encourage you to respond enthusiastically to the invitation of Share Lent 2022, which is being organized by Development and Peace – Caritas Canada under the theme “People and Planet First”. This campaign is an expression of the Gospel message and of the Church’s social teaching, both of which take into consideration the integral development of the human person.”

Pope Francis has launched the Synod on Synodality: a two-year global process of listening to the faithful that will help the Church reflect on how we can do God’s will in the world today. The comments of the faithful will ultimately be discussed at a meeting of the bishops in the Vatican in 2023.

To learn more about the Synod on Synodality and to share your thoughts, please visit: www.archtoronto.org/synodality.

In the Fall of 2019, a number of parishioners participated in the “Life Story Writing Programme” as part of our Ministry with Maturing Adults. This is being facilitated by Sister Mary Rose Marrin CSJ.

We began the Writing Circle on Zoom on January 28th and hopefully we will move to in-person sessions when restrictions are lifted. The group will gather every last Friday for 90 minutes each session.

The sessions will be held February 25th, March 25th, April 29th, May 27th, and June 24th, 2022. Sister Maria Lucia is hosting this on Zoom and Sister Mary Rose will facilitate the sessions.

Special Collection, Weekend of March 5th/ 6th

The Church building is approaching her 16th year of operation. Most equipment and machinery that keep the building functional are often not visible. This equipment has undergone regular checks and maintenance to ensure that they function properly and efficiently. Some of these have reached a critical milestone that would require major repairs or even a replacement. These items are classified as the “must haves” in our long-term budget.

One of the two project that we plan to undertake in 2022 is a major repair on the living wall. The living wall has not been in the best shape. We are in the process of identifying the issue and are close to a resolution. It involves the engineering components that reside behind the wall. Once this is resolved we can then reconstruct the external visible living wall to one that we are usually proud to associate with St. Gabriel’s Parish.

The second under consideration is asphalt resurfacing of the south parking lot. The condition is deteriorating and may pose problems in the near future if it is not repaired.

We cannot achieve these milestones without your continued support and contribution to the maintenance funds. A special collection is planned for March 5th/6th, 2022 weekend. Please be as generous as your means allow.

The 2022 Offertory envelopes are now available. When you attend Mass, please remember to pick up your box of envelopes from Nikki, maintaining the required physical distancing.

If there is no box with your name on it and you want a box, please let the parish office know in person, by phone or by email. If you are donating via Pre-Authorized Giving or Donate Now at the Archdiocese, you normally would not have an envelope box assigned to you.

If you still have envelopes in your possession from any prior year, including 2021, do no use them for 2022.

Please write your name and complete address on the first few 2022 envelopes you use so that the office can ensure we have your correct information for sending out tax receipts.

Donors With Incomplete Information

If you are making a cash donation and are not using your numbered envelopes, please ensure that your name and address are neatly printed on the envelope.

For example, we have received donations in cash where the name is not legible with a missing phone number or address.

If you want to receive a tax receipt, please ensure that you provide the above information.
