LAUDATO SI’ WEEK 2022

May 22nd to May 29th

Laudato Si’ Week 2022, to be held May 22nd to May 29th, will mark the seventh anniversary of Pope Francis’ landmark encyclical on creation care. This global celebration will unite Catholics to listen and respond together to the cry of creation, rejoice in the progress we have made in bringing Laudato Si’ to life, and intensify our efforts through the dynamic Laudato Si’ Action Platform, walking the “Synodal” path. During this week, consider taking a few moments before or after mass, contemplating St. Gabriel’s Garden as part of creation.

PLANNING TO BE A CATHOLIC TEACHER?

If you are planning to be a teacher, it is important for you to know that to be hired to teach in any Catholic school board in Ontario, there must be a letter of reference from your pastor as part of your application.

The letter explaining that you belong to and participate in the community cannot be written if he does not know you. It is recommended that you have a conversation with your pastor early in the process well before the applications are to be submitted.

ST. GABRIEL’S REFUGEE COMMITTEE – UKRAINIAN FAMILY SPONSORSHIP

We are pleased to report that our team of 21 volunteers is getting ready to welcome a family from the Ukraine.

We are in the very early stages of this sponsorship and as yet we do not know how or when we will be matched with a family in need. Our Sponsorship is the through the Office of Refugees Archdiocese of Toronto (ORAT) and they have a team in Poland speaking to Ukrainian families about resettlement in Canada.

We will of course keep the Parish informed of developments as they happen. Thank you for your continued support of this important work.
Hebrews 13:2

Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by doing so some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it.

GOOD SHEPHERD CENTRE CASSEROLES

For May your prepared frozen casseroles are being collected at the Masses next weekend for delivery to the Good Shepherd Centre.

More volunteers are needed to become active in helping to feed our less fortunate sisters and brothers. Three different recipes are available in the Parish Office or online at the Parish website.

Casserole pans are also available from the Parish Office. If you require more information, please contact Irene Albrecht at 416-221-2791.

SPECIAL COLLECTION: POPE’S PASTORAL WORKS

This Weekend, May 21st / 22nd

This weekend, May 21st /22nd there is a second collection for the Pope’s Pastoral Works. These funds are passed onto the Holy Father so the Church can provide an immediate humanitarian response in countries stricken by war, famine and natural disasters. By contributing to the Pope’s Pastoral Works, the faithful of Canada give a universal dimension to their charity and display Christ’s love and compassion for people in desperate need. Please give generously.

FOOD FOR ROSALIE HALL & GOOD SHEPHERD CENTRE

Thank you for your generous support of Rosalie Hall and the Good Shepherd Centre.

Rosalie Hall assists young parents and their children to realize their potential through the provision of a wide range of child development, community, residential and educational services.

Good Shepherd provides hot meals and shelter for the homeless in our city as well as a chance to start again through the Resettlement or DARE Programs.

Your food donations are so important as Covid 19 remains with us and numbers of needy people continue to increase. Please check the expiry dates before donating since we cannot pass on food that has expired.

GARDEN SHED

Congratulations to the hardworking confirmands Alice Leung, Cassandra Victorine, Édouard Taylor, Jay Wang, Mark Viado, Richard Antigua and Ryan Jung! In devoting service hours to the care of the garden, they have improved both its health and appearance.

On Saturday, May 14th, the members of the Garden Ministry built two new planting boxes, which greatly increases our capacity to grow food for the Good Shepherd Ministries. We also planted carrots, cucumber, squash, tomatoes, radish, green onions, parsley, and beans, and set up our rainwater harvesting system.

Plant growth at this time of year is staggering and that includes weeds. Help us keep them under control: one hour a day can make a difference. Join the Garden Ministry! Email us at sgpgardenministry@gmail.com

FINANCE CORNER

Please pick up your Offertory envelopes at the Parish Office if you have not already done so. Thank you.
