THANK YOU!

The young adults of our youth group would like to thank all the parish community for supporting their fundraiser last weekend. Over $2000 was raised towards their attendance in the World Youth Day pilgrimage this August. Thank you especially to the parishioners who donated items for the sale!

HOSPITALITY MINISTERS NEEDED

As we approach summer, we invite parishioners to volunteer their time and assist with hospitality at our church. Volunteers are needed most at the 4:30pm, 8:30am, and 12:30pm masses. Should you have any interest in being of service for our parish, please contact: hospitality@stgabrielsparish.ca or call the Parish Office at 416-221-8866 to leave your name and contact details.

PRAYERS FOR NEW PRIESTS

On Saturday, May 13th, 2023, Archbishop Francis Leo ordained seven transitional deacons with the Sacrament of Holy Orders as priests who will serve in the Archdiocese of Toronto.

As a faith community, we invite you to pray for all those who continue to serve and, in a special way, our newly ordained priests: Rev. Sávio Bruto da Costa, Rev. Sean Jacob, Rev. Mirko Ljuba, Rev. Carlos Marquez, Rev. Cole Powers, Rev. John Wang and Rev. Matthew Wang.

Let us also pray for those who are currently in formation to the priesthood at St. Augustine’s Seminary and at the Redemptoris Mater Missionary Seminary.

We give thanks to God for all those who have answered the call to serve the Church through a vocation to the priesthood, diaconate, or religious life.

PLANNING TO BE A CATHOLIC TEACHER?

If you are planning to be a teacher, it is important for you to know that to be hired to teach in any Catholic school board in Ontario, there must be a letter of reference from your pastor as part of your application.

The letter explaining that you belong to and participate in the community cannot be written if he does not know you. It is recommended that you have a conversation with your pastor early in the process well before the applications are to be submitted.

CARING FOR THE HOMELESS IN OUR CITY

Thank you for your generous support of Rosalie Hall and the Good Shepherd Centre. They are very grateful.

Rosalie Hall, assists young parents and their children, offering prenatal supports including prenatal classes, nutrition and can help find a child care provider.

They can provide parenting classes, staff to help the transition to parenthood and a school program where young parents can finish high school and be close to their babies in the Early Learning Child Care Centre. The food we donate from our parish often replenishes their empty food bank.

Good Shepherd provides more than 800 hot meals each day. As housing costs soar, they provide affordable housing and assisted living supports to help seniors and other homeless to find their way back to secure housing and for some, a chance to start again through the Resettlement or DARE Programs.

Your food donations are very important as numbers of people in need continue to increase. Please check the expiry dates before donating since we cannot pass on food that has expired.

SHARELIFE

ShareLife and World Communications Day

On this World Communications Day, your support of ShareLife is improving the lives of Deaf people in our community.

More than 60% of families with a Deaf child do not know or use a signing language. Silent Voice, a ShareLife agency, is able to provide an array of accessible programs and services, responding to the needs of Deaf adults, youth, children, infants, and their families in American Sign Language (ASL). This is because of you. The help and support you give brings hope and changes many lives. Thank you for your generosity.

Thus far we have raised $76,812 toward our goal of $192,000 Please give at the parish using a ShareLife envelope, online through our parish website, or at sharelife.org/donate.
