THE PASSION OF THE EARTH at ST. GABRIEL’S
A Parish Blog
No doubt you will have noticed the painting The Passion of the Earth by Br. Michael Moran, CP in the gathering space of our church.
We have created a blog space – a place where you can write your thoughts, and comment on the ideas of others – an online parish conversation. It is being hosted on the Passionist Solidarity Network website at https://www.passionistsolidaritynetwork.org/st-gabriels-parish-blog-on-the-passion-of-the-earth/artistic-insight-into-the-crisis-of-earth#comments
We welcome you to join in this conversation in respectful dialogue. Just click on the link and start typing. Let’s share our thoughts and learn with and from each other.
ADULT CHOIR
The Adult choir has returned for the 2024-2025 year. The choir rehearses on Tuesday evenings from 7:30 to 9:00 PM, and sings at the 10:30 AM Mass. New members are most welcome.
YELLOWKNIFE BAKE SALE
Many many thanks to all who supported the bake sale by donating and buying baked goods. We raised a whopping $2364.00 for the Diocese of Mackenzie-Fort Smith. As always, the parishioners of St. Gabriel’s are very generous with their time and money. You hit it out of the ballpark!!
The group has now left for Yellowknife. Please say a prayer that they may be enlightened by our brothers and sisters in the North and also have a safe journey.
ST. GABRIEL’S YOUTH GROUP
Elementary school students from Grades 5 to 8 are invited to a youth gathering on Sunday September 29th after the 12:30 Mass. All are welcome to join in an afternoon of food, games, prayer, and fellowship.

INDIGENOUS HEALING AND RECONCILIATION
National Day for Truth and Reconciliation – Monday, September 30th, 2024
Special Collection – October 5th /6th, 2024
The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation takes place each year on September 30th. As part of our ongoing commitment to support healing and reconciliation, the Archdiocese of Toronto will hold a special collection on the weekend of October 5th /6th.
The Indigenous Healing & Reconciliation fund is part of a national effort announced by the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops. To date, the fund has raised more than 50% of its $30 million target as pledged by the Canadian bishops and dioceses throughout Canada. The Archdiocese of Toronto has allocated $2.7 million of its $6 million pledge to charitable initiatives supporting healing and reconciliation.
The collection on the weekend of October 5th/6th provides an opportunity for the faithful to contribute to this important initiative. For more information or to donate online please visit: www.archtoronto.org/healingandreconciliation – thank you for your generosity!
A Message from our Justice and Peace & Integrity of Creation Ministry
The national day for Truth and Reconciliation honours the children who never returned home and the survivors of residential schools, as well as their families and communities. Public commemoration of the tragic and painful history and ongoing impacts of residential schools is a vital component of the reconciliation process. This federal statutory holiday was created through legislative amendments made by Parliament.
Orange Shirt Day, which also takes place on September 30th, is an Indigenous-led grassroots commemorative day intended to raise awareness of the individual, family and community inter-generational impacts of residential schools, and to promote the concept of “Every Child Matters”. The orange shirt is a symbol of the stripping away of culture, freedom and self-esteem experienced by Indigenous children over generations.
SHARELIFE
Share your blessings this Thanksgiving!
Thanksgiving is a time for gratitude, but right now families are struggling to put enough food on the table. ShareLife has returned with the Food Security Grants – dedicating $750,000 to help those in need of a warm meal. Will you share your blessings by making a contribution to our parish’s ShareLife Campaign? Please give with love at sharelife.org/donate or our parish with a ShareLife envelope.
ASSISTANCE FOR MARGINALIZED WOMEN
In support of the Passionist charism to go out to the margins of our community, a group within the parish is collecting donations of twin sized blankets, mattress covers, bed linens (sheets and pillowcases) and double sized duvets for senior women. Any help you could extend is greatly appreciated. Your donations can be dropped off at the parish office by October 5th.
