PSALM MEDITATION
Psalm 68
Let us focus on the refrain of the Psalm we sing today:
“In your goodness, O God,
You provided for the needy.”
Sirach instructs us of humility, of the truth that we are all needy.
Hebrews counters with the promise that we have come to God.
The Psalm goes on at great length, singing poetically of God’s unfailing care for us. It sings of God’s greatness and might.

CARING FOR THE HOMELESS IN OUR CITY
Thank you for your generous support of Rosalie Hall and the Good Shepherd Centre over the summer. They are very appreciative.
Rosalie Hall assists young parents and their children to realize their potential. The food we donate from our parish often replenishes their empty food bank.
Good Shepherd provides hot meals and shelter for the homeless in our city as well as a chance to start again through the Resettlement or DARE Programs. In addition to our casseroles and food donations, our Garden Ministry has been growing fresh food for the Good Shepherd Centre.
Your food donations are so important as numbers of people in need continue to increase. Please check the expiry dates before donating since we cannot pass on food that has expired.
BEACONS OF HOPE
Beacons of Hope is a parish group formed nearly a year ago to support the needs of marginalized women both within St. Gabriel’s Parish and beyond. To date we are happy to have the opportunity to support two women’s shelters by providing personal care items, towels and winter coats.
All of these women, due to unforeseen circumstances came to live in these shelters and are among the marginalized of society. In the spirit of the Passionist charism, the late Pope Francis, as well as the newly elected Pope Leo, we will continue to serve these women, extending to them hope, love and the light of Christ.
GOOD SHEPHERD CENTRE CASSEROLES
Thank you to the volunteers who prepared casseroles this summer for the Good Shepherd Centre. For September, your prepared frozen casseroles will be collected at the Masses on the weekend of September 28th/29th for delivery to the Centre.
You may pick up a copy of a casserole recipes and a pan from the Parish Office. Three recipes are also available on the St. Gabriel’s web site. Please remember to mark the label on the pan lid with the name of the casserole.
More volunteers are urgently needed to help feed the hungry in our city. For more information, please contact Irene Albrecht at 416 221-2791.
