PSALM MEDITATION
Psalm 113
“Praise the name of the Lord who lifts up the needy.”
The Lord looks after those who are in need. And if we seek to do the will of God, then we had best do the same.
Today, the reading from the Book of the Prophet Amos presents us with a catalogue of ways we harm the needy. The Psalm then reminds us that this is NOT the way of God.
1 Timothy urges us to pray for everyone. And the Gospel written for us by Luke reminds us that we cannot serve both God and wealth.
“Blessed be the name of the Lord
from this time on and forevermore.”

GARDEN SHED
The Garden Ministry is celebrating harvest season! Thank you to Fr. Dennis, Sr. Malou, our Summer Student Garden Helpers Elia, Ryan, and Timothy, and all the volunteers for your time and hard work with the harvest. The fruits, vegetables, and herbs you’ve helped gather will benefit the Good Shepherd Ministries.
Get ready for some delicious news! Our fresh cherries and red currants are being baked into special treats. Keep an eye out for details in November on how you can get your hands on them!
Are you looking for a nature getaway? Join the Garden Ministry! Back in the Spring, we celebrated a wonderful start to the season with six new volunteers, bringing our total to 21 members. If you’d like to get your hands dirty, email us at garden@stgabrielsparish.ca to get involved.
FLOWER FUND
Each year we decorate our worship space for Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter. In the last few years, the cost of the flowers has increased considerably. For this reason, we are establishing a Flower Fund to help defray the cost of the flowers. If you would like to donate, please bring your donation to the office in an envelope marked Flower Fund.

BEACONS OF HOPE
To meet the continued need for personal care items, pyjamas, slippers, towels etc. the Beacons of Hope group will be setting up a donation drop off box in the Gathering Space. A list of needed items will be posted at the box and on the bulletin boards. With the exception of slippers and personal care items that must be new, pyjamas, robes, towels could be gently used and clean.
One of the shelters has also made a request for vacuum cleaners. These should be in good working order and clean. Any assistance you could provide is greatly appreciated. Thank you for your kind generosity!
SHARELIFE
From the heart of the Church – Food Security Grants to fight hunger
As food insecurity worsens across the GTA, ShareLife, Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Toronto (CCAT), and two generous anonymous donors, have pledged a combined $800,000 in Food Security Grants for 2025—building on previous commitments of $500,000 in 2023 and $750,000 in 2024.
Living the Gospel means caring for those who are hungry and vulnerable every single day. This is why we need your help to reach our parish goal. Please help fight hunger through sharelife.org/donate or by giving at our parish using a ShareLife envelope. Thank you for living the Gospel.

“NO SHADE FOR JONAH: ENGAGING THE OTHER IN CHALLENGING TIMES”
Monday, September 29, 2025 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM
AN ONLINE (AND IN-PERSON) EVENT RECOMMENDED BY THE OFFICE OF ECUMENICAL AND INTERFAITH RELATIONS
As part of the Jewish preparation for the Days of Awe (the ten days starting with Rosh Hashanah and ending with Yom Kippur), Dr. Shuly Rubin Schwartz will give a talk on the Book of Jonah. She will explore what it means to be brave and morally grounded when it would be easier to turn away. The Book of Jonah summons us to engage and build bridges—even with those who may seem distant or hostile—and teaches that like Jonah, each of us has the power to make a difference. Join this webinar for a Jewish insight into our shared biblical tradition.
In this Holy Year of Jubilee, as Pilgrims of Hope let us seek to build bridges, make a difference, and work with other faith communities in friendship for the common good.
