Belonging, Believing, Becoming Stewardship Campaign

Because of your generosity so far, we have reached 57% of our goal. Every gift, large or small, is making this mission possible

Join us after Mass today in the Gathering Space to hear from our Stewardship Team and enjoy some light refreshments together.

Gratitude Sunday is next weekend − and we hope you will be part of it! On April 26th & 27th we will pause as a community to give thanks, to celebrate the gifts committed and forthcoming, and to celebrate what God is doing in and through St. Gabriel’s parish community.

If you have not yet returned your form, please bring it with you next weekend so that your gift may be included.

FAQ of the Week How much should I give?

Our current giving falls approximately 40% short of what we need to sustain our ministries and meet our annual expenses. We simply ask that you pray about it and give what you are able − each one as they have decided in their heart.

THE VIGIL OF PENTECOST

Saturday, May 23rd, 2026

We would like to celebrate the Vigil Mass of Pentecost on Saturday, May 23rd. This Mass has a parallel vigil like the Easter Vigil. There is a selection of Old Testament readings for Pentecost. Three readings and responses can speak to the richness of this feast, while not extending our Mass very long.

In the next two weeks, let’s see the interesting history of Pentecost and its vigil, the baptism of an Emperor, Constantine, the woman eye witness from the year 383 to the celebration in Jerusalem, and Pope Leo the Great and his guidance. A good story of how liturgy develops to celebrate the “Feasts of Feasts.” Also, what are the 7 readings offered from which we will choose?

PSALM MEDITATION

Psalm 16. A psalm of confidence and of trust in God

In response to Peter’s sermon on Pentecost (Acts, 2), in which Peter quotes today’s psalm, Psalm 16, we sing of trust in God:

“You show me the path of life;
in your presence there is fulness of joy,
In your right hand are pleasures for evermore.”

Peter’s sermon in Acts is the source of our tradition that Psalm 16 indeed refers to Jesus, the Messiah. A tradition anchored firmly in scripture.

We react with hope and trust to the resurrection celebrated at Easter and on every Sunday. Hope and trust in God our loving and gracious creator and redeemer. Our firm belief is that God will providentially show us the path to the fulness of life.

“Lord you will show me the path of life.”

SHARELIFE

Through ShareLife, you helped Tara rebuild her life.

Tara’s childhood was anything but safe. Conflict and fear filled her days, and as she grew older, home became unbearable. She waited, hoping things would change, but she had to leave once she became a teenager. Because of your warm heart, Tara found safety at Covenant House Toronto, a Catholic Charities agency you support through ShareLife. After a short stay in the crisis shelter, she moved into the Rights of Passage (ROP) program, determined to rebuild her life. You gave Tara the strength to take charge of her future—adding her name to waitlists for affordable housing and taking steps to stand on her own. In the meantime, she balanced multiple part-time jobs while staying in school, saving every dollar she could. With your caring support, she connected with a counsellor to begin working through the challenges that had forced her to leave home. Today, she’s living independently and building the future she once thought was out of reach.

ShareLife Sunday special collections are taking place next weekend on April 26. Please give at the parish using a ShareLife envelope, online through our parish website, or at sharelife.org/donate

HELP NOT HARM: Take Action to Support Bill C-218

Write your Member of Parliament Today!

Visit HelpNotHarmCanada.ca

You’re invited to visit HelpNotHarmCanada.ca where you can e-mail your Member of Parliament (MP), asking for their support of Bill C-218 (The Right to Recover Act), which would amend the Criminal Code to prevent Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD) from being provided when mental illness is the sole underlying condition. Without this change, MAiD will be available for those suffering from mental illness alone beginning in March 2027.

Chances are you know someone struggling with mental illness — a family member, friend, or colleague. As Catholics and Canadians, we are called to offer care, hope, and protection — not death — to those who are suffering and most vulnerable. Visit HelpNotHarmCanada.ca today and ask your MP to support Bill C-218.
