Belonging, Believing, Becoming Stewardship Campaign

As we celebrate the joy of Easter, we are deeply thankful for the 120 of our parish families who have responded generously. We have reached 49% of our goal.

Please join us at the Information session this Wednesday April 8th at 7:00 PM or visit our Stewardship Team in the Gathering Space after all the Masses on April 18th & 19th. Light refreshments will be provided. All are welcome!

If you have not yet had a chance to respond, we invite you to do so. Copies of the Annual Impact Report are available at the back of the church. Complete the form inside and return it in the collection basket or the box in the Gathering Space.

FAQ of the Week What if I can’t join the session this week or weekend?

From the Desk of Fr. Paul

On this Easter, as we celebrate the Resurrection, we take a moment to keep our brothers and sisters in the Holy Land in our thoughts and prayers. We also take a moment to thank all our fellow parishioners who help make St. Gabriel’s Parish the vital and welcoming church that we are.

We are grateful to our Musicians, Cantors and Choirs, our Lectors, Altar Servers, our Youth, Ministers of Hospitality, the Counting ministry, our Finance Council, the Building Committee, the Events Committee, the Garden ministry, those responsible for decorating the church, those keeping the altar linens fresh and our Mission Coordinators. Thank you!

PSALM MEDITATION

Easter Sunday
Psalm 118

This thanksgiving psalm and song of victory encourages us to rejoice, be glad, and give thanks. It’s our response to the sermon of Peter as recorded in Acts, chapter 10.

There Peter summarizes the work of Jesus, from his baptism, through his teaching, doing good and healing the sick, to his passion, death and resurrection.

Our response: our faith in the goodness of God whose love is steadfast, our hope that we shall live forever, and our love for Jesus, the one rejected by the builders who becomes the cornerstone of the Church, the People of God.

Psalm 118 begins and ends with this same line:

“O give thanks to the Lord, for he is good;
for his mercy endures forever!”

Mid-psalm, after the psalmist has described his distress and difficulties, he exclaims:

“The Lord is my strength and my song;
he has become my salvation.”

This psalm gives us the language we need to celebrate the Resurrection of the Lord. No wonder the Church selects Psalm 118 for today’s liturgy.

SHARELIFE

With your support of ShareLife, despair turns into hope

When Eulogio learned his wife was pregnant — not just with one baby, but with twins — his joy multiplied. He dreamed of raising David and Emmanuel with the same love and care he had given his firstborn, determined to provide them with a warm home and a future full of possibility.

But then, a devastating accident cost Eulogio his job, leaving his family without a reliable way to put food on the table or keep warm in the bitter cold. The weight of hunger and uncertainty grew heavier each day. Because of your kindness, ShareLife and Canadian Food for Children were able to step in, ensuring this family had food to sustain them. But there are more families in need. With your gift to ShareLife, you can enable more fathers like Eulogio to hold their children close and carry the strength to face tomorrow.

Please give at the parish using a ShareLife envelope, online through our parish website, or at sharelife.org/donate.

THE LIFE STORY PROGRAMME

Presented by the Ministry for Maturing Adults
St. Gabriel’s Passionist Parish
Thursday, April 16th to Thursday, June 4tth, from 2:00 to 3:30

“The life story programme provides an opportunity to stop, take stock, and look back over the process of life in order to gain deeper understanding, clearer perspective and a more integrated view. Undertaken from a faith perspective, it is a search for evidence in your life that God has been with you and is still with you.”

Dr. Richard Johnson, author of The 12 Keys to Spiritual Vitality: Powerful Lessons on Living Agelessly

Members of the Ministry for Maturing Adults will facilitate the reflection on life experience in each decade of life. From these reflections, the participants will write stories that are significant to them. Later on, each person will choose what they wish to share from their personal reflection and writing.

We will meet for a total of 8 sessions on consecutive Thursdays, April 16th to June 4th from 2:00 to 3:30 PM.

The cost for the workbook is $20. Please register by April 9th, by sending an email to mam@stgabrielsparish.ca, and include your name and telephone number.
