PSALM MEDITATION

Psalm 100

This psalm of praise is a favourite. As the “Old Hundredth” it appears in several long-popular hymns: All People That On Earth Do Dwell, Praise God from Whom All Blessings Flow, among others.

As today’s Responsorial Psalm, it sings the praise of God in answer to the reading from Exodus in which God takes Israel, that is all of Creation, as God’s treasured possession. Entirely inspiring and hope-filled words of Scripture.

In the opening lines, this psalm teaches us what our attitude should be when we approach God, when we pray, and when we become aware of God’s constant presence. The answer: with joy, gladness, singing, thanksgiving, praise, thanks and blessing. Not a word about fear.

Why sing the praise of God?

“For the Lord is good;
his steadfast love endures forever,
and his faithfulness to all generations.”

TRIVIA

“Old Hundredth” was the first work transmitted by telephone during Graham Bell’s first demo at the American Academy of Arts and Sciences (Boston, May 10, 1876)…(Wikipedia) I.e., just about exactly 150 years ago.

SHARELIFE

Your gift to ShareLife encourages inclusion and belonging

For John, life raising two Deaf sons has been filled with love—but also deep fears. He’s watched them struggle in a world that often overlooks and isolates them. With your gift to ShareLife, families like his have found hope and belonging through life-changing support in a welcoming American Sign Language environment—something still out of reach for too many others.

Silent Voice Canada, a Catholic Charities agency you support through ShareLife, facilitates connection and provides family-based resources that combat isolation, remove barriers, enhance skills, and encourage inclusion and belonging.

Your generous heart helped shape the future for John and his sons—giving them courage, a sense of belonging, and the opportunity to embrace all that life has to offer.

You can continue to uplift Deaf children and their parents, providing them with the confidence to see themselves as capable, strong, and full of potential.

Please give at the parish using a ShareLife envelope, online through our parish website, or at sharelife.org/donate.

SMALL BEREAVEMENT SUPPORT GROUPS

Grief is part of the human experience. At different moments in our lives, we may face the pain of losing a loved one, changes in our health or relationships, separation, or transitions that alter the way we live. These experiences can deeply affect our hearts, minds, bodies, and spirits.

The death of someone we love is especially painful. After a significant loss, we may experience many emotions, including sadness, shock, anger, loneliness, or guilt. At times, the journey through grief can feel overwhelming. Yet, healing often begins when we are able to share our sorrow with others who understand and walk alongside us with compassion and hope.

Last September, our Palliative Care and Bereavement Ministry Team (PCBM) launched the first Small Bereavement Support Groups. These groups offer a safe, caring, and confidential space for individuals to explore their grief journey in the company of others who have experienced a similar loss. The groups are small, closed-membership groups of approximately 5–8 participants and are guided by trained PCBM facilitators. Participants are grouped according to similar experiences of loss, such as the death of a spouse, parent, child, and sibling.

The Small Bereavement Support Groups are scheduled to begin during the week of October 5, 2026, and will run for 7 weeks.

If you are interested in participating or would like more information, please contact Louise Galego and Nadine Altay via the email address: bereavement@stgabrielsparish.ca
