SHARELIFE

Working wonders for people with special needs

12 years ago, Michael walked into the Good Shepherd Centre, a ShareLife recipient – homeless, penniless, friendless. He was only 25 but had already wrecked a promising life with hard drinking and drug use. Availing of the Centre’s Drug and Alcohol Recovery Enrichment program, Michael finally managed to turn his life around and start afresh – those who knew him then and now are just astounded at the change. ShareLife funded agencies assisted over 20,000 people with special needs last year, affirming their value to our society.

3rd ShareLife collection – June 5, 2011
Please give generously. You can work WONDERS!

CASSEROLES FOR THE GOOD SHEPHERD CENTRE

Thank you to the volunteers who prepared 43 casseroles for April. For May, your prepared casseroles (frozen please) will be collected at the Masses on the weekend of May 28/29, 2011 for delivery to the Good Shepherd Centre. More volunteers are encouraged to become active in helping to feed our less fortunate sisters and brothers. If you require more information or would like to get a copy of the recipe and a casserole pan, please contact Irene Albrecht at 416 221-2791.

VERBUM DOMINI

St. Francis Xavier Church, Mississauga
May 13th at 7:00 PM

What does the Catholic Church say about the Bible? “Verbum Domini”: How to be “hearers” and “heralds” of the Word of God. Rediscovering the centrality of God’s Word in personal life and in the life of the Church as well as “the urgency and beauty” of announcing it. This is in brief Pope Benedict XVI’s message in the post-synod apostolic exhortation.

Verbum Domini has three main sections: The God Who Speaks; The Word of God in the Church; The Church’s Mission to Proclaim the Word of God to the World. This lecture is for anyone who wants to learn an authentically Catholic approach to the Bible and how to share the message with the world. Our guest speaker is Fr. Murray Watson, Professor in Biblical Studies and Vice-Rector of St. Peter’s Seminary, London.
May 13th, St. Francis Xavier, Mississauga, 7:00-9:00 PM.

GREEN CORNER

There are many windows through which we can look out into the world, searching for meaning… Most of us, when we ponder on the meaning of our existence, peer through but one of these windows onto the world. And even that one is often misted over by the breath of our finite humanity. We clear a tiny peephole and stare through. No wonder we are confused by the tiny fraction of a whole that we see. It is, after all, like trying to comprehend the panorama of the desert or the sea through a rolled-up newspaper.
