Undivided Unity – Homily – May 26, 2013

Sunday, May 26th, 2013

Today we celebrate the feast of the Holy Trinity. This is a mystery basic to our faith as Christians – this is the mystery that separates us from the great faiths of Judaism and Islam.  They too believe in the one God, the Father of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. But we believe that the  “God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob loved the world so much He sent His Son to the world – not to condemn the world – but in order that the world might be saved through him.” We believe that the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob sent the Holy Spirit to us at Pentecost to complete the work of Christ on earth and bring us to the fullness of grace. (more…)

Homily – May 19, 2013

Sunday, May 19th, 2013

In the Missal we used before this present one there was a prayer we prayed that summed up the meaning this feast  of Pentecost. We prayed’ and that we might live no longer for ourselves but for him he sent the Holy Spirit from your Father as his first gift to those who believe, to complete his work on earth and  bring us to the fullness of grace. Bulletin – May 19, 2013

Sunday, May 19th, 2013

In this week’s bulletin, an update on our Iraqi family, and congratulations to the children receiving their First Communion!

UPDATE ON OUR IRAQI FAMILY

As some of you may recall, our Iraqi refugee family left Damascus amidst heavy fighting last July, and arrived safely in Toronto.

Through your amazing generosity and support, and the hard work of our refugee committee, they have settled in extremely well. The youngest of the family, Reta, will be completing Grade 6. She loves school. The progress in her spoken English is truly impressive. Kharam and Athear, her two uncles and her mother have been working very hard on their English as well. They are still attending ESL classes, with Athear already reaching Level 4 in proficiency. The family keeps telling us how grateful they are for the opportunity to come to Canada and for your support, and what a difference that has made to their lives.

The time is coming, however, when our financial commitment to the family will end. Once again we are asking for your help. It is very important that Athear and Kharam find jobs so they can be responsible for their family’s support. Both men have worked in construction, and as stone masons; they have also done ceramic tiling. The men are eager to work; they are ready to consider working in any job available. If you are hiring or know of a friend who is, could you please contact Fatima Lee at the parish (416) 221-8866 or email at fatimalee@bellnet.ca.

CONGRATULATIONS!

Congratulations to the following children from the Children’s Faith Program, and those from Private and Public Schools who received their First Communion as a group on Sunday, May 12th, 2013.

Homily – May 12, 2013

Sunday, May 12th, 2013

You notice we have three stained glass windows from the old church here, representing the Resurrection, the Ascension and Pentecost. Scripture scholars tell us that Christ’s resurrection, his Ascension and the coming of the Holy Spirit are all part of the Easter event. The church has separated them in order to allow us to contemplate the meaning of two aspects of a single, indivisible event; Christ’s rising from the dead. (more…)
