Thank you all so very much for your constant and unwavering support over these last 10 years. Projects like this would not be possible without your help. WEEK OF CONFESSION

From December 8th to December 11th

Fr. Brando will hear confessions from December 8th to December 11th by Appointment Only. Please call Fr. Brando to set up an appointment at 416 221 8866.

HOW TO GO TO CONFESSION

Before Confession

Examine your conscience by reflecting on your sins.

Tips for making a good confession:
Don’t be too general (like, “I haven’t been a good person”), but a lot of detail isn’t necessary either (you don’t need to tell the whole story of how a sin came about).

If you’re not sure if something is a sin, just ask the priest.

This isn’t counseling, so unless you ask, the priest likely won’t give you advice.

During Confession

Begin: “In the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Bless me Father for I have sinned. It has been [length of time] since my last confession. These are my sins…”

When you finish: The priest will suggest something for you to do or pray (penance) as a response to God’s mercy. Remember what it is, because you’ll have to do it after the confession is over.

The priest will then ask you to pray the Act of Contrition out loud, demonstrating your sorrow for your sins:

“My God My God, I am sorry for my sins with all my heart. In choosing to do wrong and failing to do good, I have sinned against you whom I should love above all things. I firmly intend, with your help, to do penance, to sin no more, and to avoid whatever leads me to sin. Our Saviour Jesus Christ suffered and died for us. In his name, my God, have mercy. Amen.”

When you finish, the priest will extend his hands in your direction and pray the Prayer of Absolution. You respond “Amen.”

The priest will then likely say “God has freed you from your sins. Go in peace.”
You can respond “Thanks be to God.”

After Confession

Don’t forget to do your penance. If it’s saying certain prayers, it’s best to do it right away in the church before you forget.

THEOLOGY ON TAP

Synodality: The Endless Road to Emmaus
With Speaker: Fr. Greg Kennedy, SJ
Monday November 30 from 7:00 PM to 9:00PM

The next Synod of Bishops has been called for 2022. It’s theme: synodality. This idea and, even more so, the practice of synodality is one of most exciting currents in the Catholic Church today.

With Fr. Greg Kennedy, you will explore how synodality is already invigorating the Church and how it further summons the creative participation of all its members. By the end of the evening, participants will aspire to a working understanding of what Pope Francis means when he claims, “it is precisely this path of synodality which God expects of the Church in the third millennium”. Join Fr. Kennedy and the Sisters of St. Joseph for a night of learning, fellowship, and sharing! For more information and a link to the meeting, please visit faithconnections@csj-to.ca.

UPDATE FROM THE ARCHDIOCESE OF TORONTO –PARISHES IN THE RED ZONE

All other requirements, registering to attend the Mass, sanitizing, social distancing and other measures as outlined in the protocols shall remain the same. Please visit the parish website to register to come to Mass. No walk ins shall be permitted at the moment.

SHADOW IMPACT ON CHURCH SOUTH GARDEN AND WINDOW FROM FUTURE DEVELOPMENT OF 680 & 688 SHEPPARD AVENUE EAST

Virtual Meeting, Monday. November 23rd at 6:30 PM

A high rise 24 storey development to the east of the Church on 680 & 688 Sheppard Avenue East has the potential of casting a shadow long enough over the south garden and reducing the sun light in through our south window, and the skylight.

In addition to the above, the density of the development will increase traffic flow in the area. There is also an undesirable proposal to utilize our above ground parking lots as a passage to ease congestion due to this development.

A virtual public meeting for the proposed 680 & 688 Sheppard Ave. E. development will be on Monday November 23 at 6:30 PM. This will be the only public consultation meeting for this development and it is absolutely crucial that we have as many supporters as possible participate in the call to demonstrate to Councillor Carroll, the Planning Department and the developer that there is a very large group opposed to this project as it currently stands. To register, please go to https://shelleycarroll.ca/development-updates.

It is important that as many members of the Parish as possible also voice their opposition to the Applicants Development Plans. It is important that you state what your objection to the development, as a parishioner, neighbour, and someone who loves the Church in that you do not want:

  • the development to damage and negatively impact the intended use and enjoyment of our beloved Church.
  • the use of our parking lots for a public road.

If you cannot register and attend the virtual meeting, the following link to the City of Toronto’s development website for the application will allow you to register your comments under the applicants “public consultation section.”
