PARISH FINANCE ANNOUNCEMENT

At all of last week’s Masses members of the Finance Council briefly reported on the Parish finances for calendar year 2017 and thanked parishioners for their ongoing generosity and support.

The comparative figures are as follows: From 2016 to 2017, collections were 4% lower ($37,000), Special collections were 14% lower ($35,000), and expenses increased by 2% ($19,000).

The Finance Council highlighted that our church building is 12 years old and recommended to our Pastor, Fr. Brando to creating a sinking fund for church repairs. They also encouraged parishioners to marginally increase their contributions towards the quarterly maintenance fund or their weekly offering.

The Parish financial statements for 2017 are available from the Parish office after masses this week as well.

VOLUNTEER RECOGNITION

St. Gabriel’s salutes its over 100 volunteers who work in 22 active ministries. You may observe some of them serving at Mass as lectors, Eucharistic ministers, choir members, altar servers and ministers of hospitality. However, others are supporting our children and youth in developing a deeper understanding of their faith. Youth volunteers reach out to those in need. Others have supported our refugees and our work with the Good Shepherd Centre. Some do outreach to shut-ins and those in hospital. Volunteers look after our altar linens, our gardens and others act as collection counters.

All of this to say, volunteers assist in providing a comfortable environment for all of us to celebrate our Christian Faith. Volunteers do receive satisfaction in providing our parishioners with a safe environment in which to deepen our understanding of our faith and celebrate our Christianity.

This is National Volunteer Recognition Week. Take a look around and when you see a volunteer, stop and give her or him a smile and thank them.

Living the Gospel by evangelizing our faith in the greater world.

St. Anthony’s parish in the Diocese of Guntur in India has nine mission stations which are between 10-15 kilometres away from the parish. There are nearly 350 Catholic families and five hundred children going to school from these areas. As the mission stations are a distance from the parish, the faithful do not experience many religious activities. Father Mayakuntala Kumar, pastor of the parish, with the support of the Pastoral Mission Fund and ShareLife, is conducting a Children Faith Formation Camp to help the children to become rooted in the Catholic faith. With our support, Father Kumar is helping to evangelize the faith not only for today, but for the future as well.

SHARELIFE

Living the Gospel by evangelizing our faith in the greater world.

Gia Lao Parish resides in the mountainous Diocese of Xuan Loc in Vietnam. Its parishioners, mostly poor, work on the hillside farms. The Pastoral Mission Fund, with the support of ShareLife, provided a one-time grant so the parish could acquire resources it could not otherwise provide. This includes bibles and hymnals, along with training for 60 catechists, who lead marriage preparation and catechism classes. With your support, Gia Lao Church is bringing faith to a community in the greater world.

April 22 is the next ShareLife Sunday.
Please give generously.

SHARELIFE

Living the Gospel by supporting the Deaf community

Imagine you were a Deaf child and your parents and siblings didn’t know sign language. Your parents could gesture in a rudimentary way, but how do you share your joys, fears and needs? Silent Voice teaches American Sign Language and Deaf culture to families so they can share a common language. Says one grateful parent, “I’m so passionate about Silent Voice because their Family Communication Program rescues children from social isolation.” Last year more than 750 Deaf children and adults received help through ShareLife-supported programs at Silent Voice.

April 22nd is the next ShareLife Sunday.
Please give generously.
