Green Sacred Space Award

Wednesday, April 11th, 2012

On March 25, St Gabriel’s was presented with the Green Sacred Space Award 2012 at the annual forum organized jointly by Greening Sacred Spaces and the Green Awakening Network. The forum was held this year at the Noor Cultural Center; its theme was “Green Choices for Faith Communities”, and the keynote speaker was Elizabeth May, the leader of the Green Party of Canada.

In her speech, May reminded the participants of the importance of making decisions based on sustainability. While Native Peoples are said to keep their seventh generation in mind when they make decisions as a society, we seldom even think of their impact on our children. She further asked if it is possible that while we say we worship God, in reality we may be adoring Mammon.

The Multicultural Potluck Dinner

Sunday, January 29th, 2012

The Multicultural Potluck Dinner on the 29th January, celebrating the cultural diversity of the parish, was a smashing success! 120 people, young and old from over thirty cultural heritages, sat around tables set up in the Gathering Space to sample food from around the world, meet new friends, enjoy conversations, and have fun. As Father Paul so aptly described it during his remarks at the conclusion of the evening, the gathering was a witness of our belonging to the parish. Let us hope this sense of community will continue to grow and be cherished.
