SEASON OF CREATION 2022 – INTERFAITH PRAYER SERVICE

Wednesday, Sept. 21st from 6:00 to 7:30 PM

Room 4A, Catholic Pastoral Centre
1155 Yonge St., Toronto

The calamities around the world are due to environmental disasters and all faith communities are concerned and actively advocating to save our common home. Keeping in mind the importance of creation, the Christians around the world are actively preparing to celebrate the Season of Creation, from September 1st, the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation, to October 4th, the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron Saint of Ecology.

The proposed theme for this year is “Listening to the Voice of Creation” which is symbolised by the “Burning Bush”. It is chosen by an ecumenical steering committee and inspiration is taken from Psalm 19:1-4. The Office for Interreligious Dialogue at the Archdiocese of Toronto invites members of different faith communities to celebrate the Season of Creation with us in-person through prayer and action.

WORLD DAY OF MIGRANTS AND REFUGEE

September 25th

The theme announced by His Holiness Pope Francis for the 108th World Day of Migrants and Refugees is “Building the Future with Migrants and Refugees.” In his message, Pope Francis reminds us that inclusion of those most vulnerable is the necessary condition for full citizenship in God’s Kingdom.

Indeed, the Lord says, “Come, you who are blessed by my Father. Inherit the Kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me a drink, a stranger and you welcomed me, naked and you clothed me, sick and you took care of me, in prison and you visited me” (Mt 25:34-36).

THE GARDEN SHED

Please come to the following two events, meet members of the Garden Ministry and help to get the garden ready for the winter – “Many hands make light work!” Energy in the form of light refreshments will be provided.

On Saturday, September 24th, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 Noon, we will be cutting back spent flowers and collecting seeds for planting next year.

On Saturday, October 22nd, from 10:00 AM to12:00 Noon, we will be putting the garden to bed: covering the boxes, returning trellises, protective cages and Muskoka chairs to the garage, sharpening tools, mulching beds, etc.

For more information, please email sgpgardenministry@gmail.com

FINANCE CORNER

One of the most financially sound ways to support the Archdiocese of Toronto is with the gift of securities (stocks, bonds, mutual funds). When you donate securities to a registered charity, you pay no capital gains tax and receive a tax receipt for the full amount of the gift. It means a great tax break for you and an increased support of various archdiocesan charities. For further information, contact the Development Office at 416-934-3400 Ext. 519/561 or send an email to development@archtoronto.org

The Celebration Guide for 2022 provides detailed information on how to observe this season in parishes, schools and at home. Please see https://seasonofcreation.org/.

Your food donations are so important as numbers of people in need continue to increase. Please check the expiry dates before donating since we cannot pass on food that has expired.

THE GARDEN SHED

Labour Day may herald a return to the activities of parish life, but for us in the Garden Ministry, it is the time when life in the garden slows down and our work draws to a close.

Harvests of carrots, radish, cucumber, tomatoes, beans and herbs will continue to the end of the month when we start putting the garden to bed.

In the meantime, let the two new chairs in the south garden entice you to a few moments of tranquility in that beautiful oasis. Designed by Rachel Mcquillan, they were painted by Youth Group members Therese Celis and Czarina Reyes along with Rachel and her daughter Quinn.

Ukrainian Family Sponsorship – July 2022

July 8th, 2022

As you are aware, our parish has committed to sponsor a Ukrainian refugee family to Canada as permanent residents. Our sponsorship makes us responsible to support and assist this family during their first year in Canada. Our Parish committee of 20 members will assist them with everything from securing and equipping housing, language training, education where needed, banking, shopping, recreation, medical appointments and all the other things it takes to settle into our country.

This will be the fourth refugee family our parish has assisted in the last 10 years. The prior three families are all doing well and all have become Canadian citizens.

We have yet to be matched with a Ukrainian family but we are aware of a local church that has received their refugee family.

We will, of course, need your financial assistance to make this sponsorship a success. The government of Canada requires us to raise a minimum of $35,000 to support a family of 4. To achieve this we are now accepting donations through the parish office.

With your support we can live the gospel to which we are called.

From Mathew 25: For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in.

Thank you.
