As you probably know, the number of new cases of Covid 19, has increased dramatically. As a result, public Masses have been temporarily cancelled. Our priests will continue to celebrate private Mass daily for the intentions of parishioners and for those suffering from COVID-19.
The Church will be open for private prayer during office hours, 8:30 AM to 12:00 Noon, and 1:30 PM to 4:30 PM, Monday to Friday. The Church will not be open on the weekend. Each Saturday, Fr. Paul or Fr. Brando will celebrate Mass which will be shown on our website at 4:30 PM.
Visits to the Parish Office are by appointment only. Please call 416–221-8866 to make an appointment.

On Saturday, May 8th at 10:00 AM, His Eminence, Thomas Cardinal Collins, Archbishop of Toronto, will ordain our two transitional deacons, Rev. Mr. Arthur Lee and Rev. Mr. Andrew Taylor, with the Sacrament of Holy Orders as they become priests to the Archdiocese of Toronto. This wonderful event will take place at St. Michael’s Cathedral Basilica and the faithful are all encouraged to join us via the cathedral’s livestream.
As a community of faith, let us offer our prayers for Arthur and Andrew as they are ordained to the priesthood. Let us also continue to pray for all those who are currently in formation to the priesthood at St. Augustine’s Seminary and at the Redemptoris Mater Missionary Seminary.

Are you looking for a way to contribute or give back to others not just here in Toronto but also to our brothers and sisters in other parts of the world? Would you like to learn another way to creatively reduce, reuse, and recycle?
If so, please join Sharon Gusz to learn why and how! She will discuss and present virtually about the Milk Bag Mat-Making. This presentation will be done via Zoom on Tuesday, May 25th from 1:30 PM to 3:00 PM. Sharon is a Leadership Team Member of the Maturing Adult Ministry in our parish.

Thank you to those parishioners who prepared 18 casseroles for April. For May, your prepared frozen casseroles may be dropped off at the Parish Office before May 29th /30th for delivery to the Good Shepherd Centre.
Let’s see if we can increase that number!
The need is very great especially right now with Covid19 still spreading and many out of work.
The casseroles are easy to make and we have the recipes and casserole pans right here in the Parish Office. The recipes are also available on the Parish website. If you require more information, please contact Irene Albrecht at 416-221-2791.

Rosalie Hall assists young parents and their children to realize their potential through the provision of a wide range of child development, community, residential and educational services.
Good Shepherd provides hot meals and shelter for the homeless in our city as well as a chance to start again through the Resettlement or DARE Programs.
Your food donations are more important than ever as Covid 19 continues and numbers of needy people continue to increase. Please check the expiry dates before donating since we cannot pass on food that has expired.

The Friendly Neighbor Hotline Is an organization mobilizing volunteers to deliver groceries and medication to seniors who have trouble going to the stores by themselves. The seniors just have to call the number, they can also register online. They place their order by phone (8 items max) and say how they want to pay (cash, g then sends a message to the pool of volunteers who indicated they can do deliveries in the senior’s ward. When a volunteer responds that he or she can do it, FNH sends a message to the volunteer with the shopping list. After delivery, the volunteer gets reimbursed by the organization who collects the money from the senior.”

This past week saw us planting the cool weather seedlings after a week’s delay due to frosty temperatures.
Also accomplished this past week, was the construction of an additional box in the community garden south of the meditation circle, thanks to the efforts of Pat and Neal Ahlberg. This significantly increases our capacity to grow food for the Good Shepherd Ministries.

The past week marked the beginning of the outdoor growing season for the St. Gabriel’s Good Shepherd community garden. Shallots, snow peas and spinach seeds and lettuce, chives and parsley seedlings have been planted. More seeds and seedlings will be added at two week intervals as the weather warms up.
In addition, basil and tomato seeds have been added to the indoor planting and will be placed under the grow lights in the basement as soon as they sprout.

In compliance with the Government of Ontario’s extended stay-at-home order announced April 16, 2021 parishes must restrict attendance inside the church to 10 people. Due to these measures, public Masses must be temporarily cancelled. Private Masses will be celebrated for intentions of parishioners and for those suffering from Covid-19.
While we recognize it is not a substitute for attending Mass in person, we encourage you to view online/livestream/televised Masses. A list of these Masses can be found on www.archtoronto.org. You may view the weekend Mass from our parish by visiting this website.
We continue to thank you for your continued financial contribution during this time. You can mail or drop off your envelope contribution to the parish office. As well you can sign up for Pre-Authorized Giving by printing the form https://stgabrielsparish.ca/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/St-Gabriels-PAG-Brochure-March-20131.pdf or requesting a form from the parish office.

On behalf of the Parish,we would like to offer our heartfelt thanks to Marie Deans for her service as the Coordinator of the Lectors for the last several years. She was always encouraging and often sent beautiful seasonal prayers and songs to the lectors. Marie is stepping down from this Ministry but will continue to proclaim God’s Word. Thank you, Marie.
We also want to welcome Tanya Maraj who will be taking over as the Coordinator of the Lectors.
In order to attend Sunday Masses, a reservation for each attendee is required. Please review the Protocol for Sunday Mass celebrations before making any reservations. Please click Sunday Mass Reservations to make your reservations on Eventbrite. Registration is available on Wednesday of each week. Due to limited capacity, there will be no walk-ins allowed. If you have any difficulty in registering, please call the parish office during regular office hours.
There is no reservation required for the 9:00 am Monday to Friday weekday Mass but sign in upon arrival is required.
For the safety and health of our community, please remain home if you show or have any signs or symptoms of Covid-19. Under a City of Toronto by-law, all attendees are required to sanitize their hands and wear non-medical grade masks or face coverings throughout their entire time of attendance at church. Please remember to respect the physically distance rules of 2 metres (6 feet). We are looking forward to seeing you.

The weekend of May 15th/16th, 2021
The Society of St. Vincent de Paul will be collecting gently used clothing, shoes, textiles, bedding and towels to support our neighbors in need or to be sold to help support their special works in the community on the weekend of May 15th/16th.
They cannot accept books, dishes, furniture, appliances, mattresses, construction materials or videos and cassettes. Please bring your donations and help others in your community.
The truck will be open: Saturday from 10:00 AM to 5:30 PM Sunday from 8:00 AM to1:30 PM.
Volunteers will be there to assist with loading before and after Mass.

“For the Life of the World: Toward a Social Ethos of the Orthodox Church” was released in early 2020, after being authored by a commission of theologians specifically convened for this task by Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I. This document has been discussed and evaluated in diverse ecclesial settings over the past year.
In this event, the scholars from Greek Orthodox Church, African Methodist Church, the Episcopal Church and a scholar from the University of Fribourg (Catholic) will be exploring some of questions and reflections raised by different Christian communities on the document’s aim of fostering spiritual growth and the pursuit of social justice and sustainable peace worldwide by the Church.

The garden has a life-cycle This is true not only of the plants but also of the birds and the animals that make it their home. In the past week, I buried an injured groundhog who had burrowed under a tarp to die, a small mammal, found in a garden bed and a tiny black bird.
In the same week, as I was working, our resident pair of cardinals stopped by to see what I was doing. This has happened before, that either the pair of cardinals or the pair of robins would come by together and observe. The visits are brief given, I presume, that there are eggs that need incubating or young that need feeding, but always a gift. Life in the garden, like life everywhere, is precious and joyous and fleeting.
