In this week’s bulletin, the Good Shepherd Centre Thanksgiving food drive.
Until the early 1960s, Mass was celebrated in Latin throughout the world. At the second Vatican Council it was agreed that the Mass could be celebrated in our own language, and in 1970 Pope Paul VI approved the official Latin text that would be used. This was then translated into different languages to be used throughout the world. It proved to be a huge task which was completed in a very short time. However, because it was done so quickly, some of the richness of the original Latin prayers was, quite literally, ‘lost in translation’. It was agreed that a further translation was necessary.
The new translation would keep the original words, meaning and style of the Latin as far as possible. The new translation also means a new edition of the Missal which will include some additional text such as prayers for the saints who have been added by the Church to the liturgical calendar. In preparation for the introduction of the 3rd edition of the Roman Missal, the Archdiocese of Toronto will present a workshop at Annunciation Parish on October 5th for those interested in learning more about the upcoming changes. To register, please advise the Parish Office to ensure that sufficient materials will be available.
For more information on the Roman Missal and its changes, visit www.archtoronto.org/romanmissal anytime to continue your reflection.
Our journey of life and journey of faith are meant to converge at an early age. For many of us, however, we tend to grow physically, mentally, psychologically etc., but remain at a childish level of understanding our faith. The following information is for those who wish to keep growing, to be able to enjoy the Good News of God’s love for us as members of God’s Church.
R.C.I.A. (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) meetings have begun on Monday evenings at 7:30 PM. These evenings are for persons interested in learning about the Catholic Faith. Because the Parish Community itself is considered the official teacher and guide for potential new members, it is important that some parishioners participate by being present and by sharing their Faith in various ways. It is also an opportunity for “Born Catholics” to deepen their understanding of the faith. Adult Catholics who wish to celebrate the Sacrament of the Eucharist and/or Confirmation are welcome. For more information, please call Mary Landry at 416 – 221 – 8866, Ext. 224.
R.C.I.A. in Cantonese will also be offered this year. If you are interested, please contact Fatima Lee at 416-221-8866, Ext. 228.

PAG brochures and sign-up forms are available in the Parish Office and on the tables at the back of the Church. We thank you for your generosity and support.
Currently, Parish Food Drives helped Good Shepherd Ministries serve more than 1,200 meals a day to people who would otherwise have gone hungry. Urgently needed items include:
Please no fresh or frozen foods. We thank you for your generous support!
Thank you to the volunteers who prepared 40 casseroles for September. For October, your prepared casseroles (frozen please) will be collected at the Masses on the weekend of October 29/30 for delivery to the Good Shepherd Centre. October 16th/17th
Holy Land Christian Families are visiting the parish on October 16th and 17th to display the Olive Woods from the Holy Land. Due to religious wars and conflict, many Christian families had to leave their homes because of job loss. Hand Carved Olive Woods are religious items that are hand made by these Christian families. This is their only source of income and our mission is to help these families by selling their work to help with food, shelter and a better education. This way they can continue the only life they have known.
October 22nd/23rd.
St. Gabriel’s Parish will be having a Pauline Book & Media fair brought to us by the Daughters of St. Paul before and after all the Masses on the weekend of October 22nd/23rd. Everyone is invited to browse and purchase from a wonderful selection of Catholic books, music CDs and DVD movies from the Pauline Book and Media Centre in Toronto. There will also be a large selection for children. This is a great opportunity to get something inspirational to read, watch or listen to in order to help you on your spiritual journey. You can familiarize yourself with the life and mission of the Daughters of St. Paul by going to www.pauline.org.
Did you have a photo taken for our Parish Directory? If you have not received yours, please pick it up in the Parish Office as soon as possible. Thank you.
