On April 29th, Fr. Bill Murphy returned to Jamaica, New York to resume his duties.
Fr. Paul Ruttle CP has taken over as interim Pastor. We know you will give him a warm welcome.
We are welcoming young people of the parish to join the St. Gabriel’s Youth Group. Meetings, activities, and events will be available to various age groups – elementary school students, grades 6-8, high school students, post-secondary students, and young adults. The annual event of Season of Creation began on September 1st, the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation, and ends on October 4th, the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi, patron saint of ecology.
Each year an ecumenical steering committee selects a theme, and this year inspiration is taken from Psalm 19:1-4 that proclaims, “Listen to the Voice of Creation.” A short video to introduce this season may be watched via this link, https://youtu.be/WyjUTvGmliI. May this Season of Creation renew our Christian unity through our common efforts to respond to the voices on the margins of society and to care for the earth as good stewards in our discipleship
Here at St. Gabriel’s, you are encouraged to visit our creation garden at any time. As you walk through the garden you can read about creation at various spots along the way!
The garden is open all month and is actually open every day of the year. You could stop in the church to say a prayer or stop by to say hello!
At the 10:30 AM Mass from October to May each year, children ages 4 to 10 have the opportunity to gather as a group for the Liturgy of the Word led by parents who have volunteered. We are in need of more volunteers to assist this program. For more information or to volunteer, please call Dawn Burke at 416 671-0561 or leave a message at the Parish Office.
Registration forms for the Children’s Faith Program are now available in the parish office. This program is for children of the Parish who attend other Catholic schools, public or private schools. Classes are held at St. Gabriel’s School every second Sunday. The calendar is not yet finalized. Please note that a separate Sacramental registration form is required if your child will receive the sacraments of First Communion, Reconciliation or Confirmation during the 2022/2023 school year. These forms are also available in the Parish Office. Baptismal Certificates are required for First Communion and Confirmation.
Meetings in preparation for the R.C.I.A. (Rites of Christian Initiation of Adults) will begin this month. These meetings are for persons interested in learning more about the Catholic Faith. The exploration may lead the candidate to seek baptism, and become a member of the Catholic Christian community; or for Christians already baptized into another Christian denomination, the reception into the Catholic Church.
Adult Catholics who have not received the sacrament of Confirmation but who wish to do so are also encouraged to attend these sessions.

Weekend of September 10th/11th
The Society of Saint Vincent de Paul will be collecting gently used clothing, shoes and linens to support our neighbours in need next weekend, September 10th/11th. Please bring your donation and help others in your community. Thank you! “The truck/bin will be open Saturday from 10:00 AM until 6:00 PM and Sunday from 8:00 AM until 2:00 PM. Volunteers will assist with the loading before and after each Saturday and Sunday Mass”.
Thank you for your generous support of Rosalie Hall and the Good Shepherd Centre over the summer. They are very appreciative.
Rosalie Hall assists young parents and their children to realize their potential. The food we donate from our parish often replenishes their empty food bank.
Good Shepherd provides hot meals and shelter for the homeless in our city as well as a chance to start again through the Resettlement or DARE Programs. In addition to our casseroles and food donations, our Garden Ministry has been growing fresh food for the Good Shepherd Centre.
Your food donations are so important as numbers of people in need continue to increase. Please check the expiry dates before donating since we cannot pass on food that has expired.
For those who have not yet contributed to ShareLife, you may still do so. Envelopes are at the back of the church. Please be as generous as your means allow.
There will be a second collection next weekend, September 10th/11th for the Maintenance of the Parish. Envelopes are in the pews. Please be as generous as your means allow.
Thank you to the volunteers who prepared 88 casseroles this summer. For September, your prepared frozen casseroles will be collected at the Masses on the weekend of September 24th/25th for delivery to the Good Shepherd Centre.
You may pick up a copy of a casserole recipes and a pan from the Parish Office. Three recipes are also available on St. Gabriel’s web site. Please remember to mark the label on the pan lid with the name of the casserole.

The Jesuit Forum for Social Faith and Justice has recently published, ‘Listening to Indigenous Voices: A Dialogue Guide on Justice and Right Relationships in partnership with Indigenous elders and knowledge keepers. St. Peter’s Parish has invited Elder Bob Philips and Fr. Trevor Scott SJ, of the Jesuit Forum to introduce this dialogue process.

The theme announced by His Holiness Pope Francis for the 108th World Day of Migrants and Refugees is “Building the Future with Migrants and Refugees.” In his message, Pope Francis reminds us that inclusion of those most vulnerable is the necessary condition for full citizenship in God’s Kingdom. Indeed, the Lord says, “Come, you who are blessed by my Father. Inherit the Kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me a drink, a stranger and you welcomed me, naked and you clothed me, sick and you took care of me, in prison and you visited me” (Mt 25:34-36).
