We gather this weekend in gratitude for the place we are in, the milestones we have crossed and the volunteers and parishioners who have responded to our call and celebrate what God is doing in and through us at St Gabriel’s. We have raised 59% of our goal. 85 parishioners have increased their contribution and 50 have given one-time gifts.
If you are have not yet had a chance to respond, today is a beautiful day to do so. We ask you to prayerfully consider making a gift to support our funding gap.
If you forgot your form, please find one at the back of the church. Forms can be returned in the collection basket or the Gathering Space box.
Our stewardship team will be reaching out personally to all who submitted forms in the coming weeks to say thank you. If you have any questions about your pledge, please don’t hesitate to contact the parish office at 416 221 8866 or office@stgabrielsparish.ca
Thank you for your trust, your generosity and tour faithful response to this call.

Psalm 23
This well-loved and familiar psalm, which links all of today’s readings, begins:
“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want, He makes me lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside still waters; He restores my soul.”
This entire psalm speaks to us most urgently of the Lord’s love and care for us. One particular line speaks most powerfully:
“Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.”
The psalmist is no longer pursued by enemies; instead the Lord pursues with loving kindness. These words and sentiments are ours. The loving kindness of God is after us, chases us, seeks us out…not just sometimes, or once in a while, but at all times, in all situations, in all places. Always and everywhere. That which is true at all times and in all places we celebrate at the Eucharist.

Last week’s bulletin called attention to our Saturday 4:30 Mass for the Vigil of Pentecost, May 24th. This is to alert everyone of the vigil aspect with 3 readings and sung responses at the beginning of Mass, like the Easter Vigil. As follows, the development of this feast explains the invitation to its greater solemnity.
Pentecost is the 50th and the final day of the Easter celebration. In 337 the Roman Emperor Constantine was baptized on Pentecost, then called the ‘Feast of Feasts’. The Roman Empire embraces Christianity. During this time all 50 days were called ‘Pentecost’ and the feasts of Ascension and Pentecost were celebrated on the same day. From the journal of Egeria, a famous woman pilgrim who participated in the Pentecost celebration in Jerusalem in 383 we read that ‘after mass in the Church of the Resurrection the entire city follows the bishop to Sion where they hear from the Acts of the Apostles the descent of the Holy Spirit. A second mass follows. After lunch we went to the Mt. of Olives where we listened to a series of readings interspersed with songs and prayers, and the reading about Our Lord’s Ascension’.
The present Vigil offers 7 Old Testament readings, among them: Genesis, the confusion of languages; Jeremiah, a new covenant written in our hearts; and Ezekiel, the valley of dry bones. Next week we’ll mention the other 4 readings and continue with the next stage in the development of our Pentecost celebration.
ShareLife Sunday is this weekend, celebrating 50 years.
Today is ShareLife Sunday, the second weekend of special collections. Since 1976, ShareLife has been rooted in our Catholic values of charity and in living the Gospel by caring for those in need. Over the decades, thousands of people across our archdiocese have come together through parish campaigns, school drives, workplace giving, and personal acts of kindness to make a difference in the lives of countless individuals and families. ShareLife recognizes that all humans are created in the image of God, with a commitment to the dignity of the individual and the right to life, working on behalf of the poor and vulnerable.
As we celebrate this milestone anniversary in 2026, we invite you to join us in honouring this legacy of serving the marginalized in our parish community and around the world. With your support, ShareLife-funded agencies can continue to provide vital services—like counselling for families, support for isolated seniors, and care for those facing mental health challenges—for years to come. Please give at the parish using a ShareLife envelope, online through our parish website, or at sharelife.org/donate.
Thank you for your continued support of Rosalie Hall and the Good Shepherd Centre.
Rosalie Hall is an accredited children’s mental health facility focusing on the needs of pregnant and parenting youth ages 12-25, their children, and their families.
Good Shepherd provides hot meals, clean clothes and shelter for the homeless in our city. They help find housing and provide follow up support. Your donations are very much appreciated.
Please check the expiry dates before donating since we cannot pass on food that has expired.
Write your Member of Parliament Today! Visit HelpNotHarmCanada.ca
You’re invited to visit HelpNotHarmCanada.ca where you can e-mail your Member of Parliament (MP), asking for their support of Bill C-218 (The Right to Recover Act), which would amend the Criminal Code to prevent Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD) from being provided when mental illness is the sole underlying condition. Without this change, MAiD will be available for those suffering from mental illness alone beginning in March 2027.
Chances are you know someone struggling with mental illness — a family member, friend, or colleague. As Catholics and Canadians, we are called to offer care, hope, and protection — not death — to those who are suffering and most vulnerable. Visit HelpNotHarmCanada.ca today and ask your MP to support Bill C-218
