Psalm 69
This lengthier psalm is a song of lament. The speaker seeks deliverance and relief from persecution and suffering.
Our liturgy selects a few lines from the psalm which emphasize God’s faithful and steadfast love towards the speaker who represents all people and all of creation.
Several lines in this poem find direct echoes in the Gospel. Today’s psalm responds to the first reading from Jeremiah, the prophet denounced by so many: yet the Lord is with him “like a dread warrior”.
These words from this song can be our prayer.
“With your steadfast help, rescue me. Answer me, O Lord, for your steadfast love is good; According to your abundant mercy, turn to me.”
Steadfast? An ancient word speaking of complete reliability, unswerving loyalty, unmovable hope.
Registration for children planning to receive the Sacraments of First Communion, Reconciliation or Confirmation in 2027 can now be done at the parish office. Baptismal certificates are required to register for First Communion and Confirmation.
Registration forms for the Children’s Faith Program are now available in the parish office. This program is for children of the Parish who attend other Catholic schools, public or private schools. Classes are held at St. Gabriel’s School, generally every other Sunday morning from September to April.
Please note that a separate Sacramental registration form is required if your child will receive the sacraments of First Communion, Reconciliation, or Confirmation during the 2026/2027 school year. These forms are also available in the Parish Office. Baptismal certificates are required for First Communion and Confirmation.
Pope Leo XIV has released his first encyclical, Magnifica Humanitas (“Magnificent Humanity”), reflecting on human dignity, Christian solidarity, and the moral challenges of our modern age — including the growing influence of artificial intelligence and emerging technologies. The Holy Father calls on all of humanity to ensure that technological progress always serves the human person and the common good.
Parishioners are encouraged to read and pray with this important new teaching document in the weeks ahead. The full text is available through the Archdiocese of Toronto website at: www.archtoronto.org or through the Vatican website at: www.vatican.va

You create memories that last a lifetime through ShareLife
For many parents, who are unable to care for their children on a full-time basis, summer break brings both mental and financial worry. Agencies you support through ShareLife, such as Camp Ozanam, Office of Catholic Youth, Silent Voice Canada, and St. Bernadette’s Family Resource Centre, offer day programs and summer camps that bring children and youth, and their parents, much-needed relief. St. Bernadette’s Family Resource Centre cares for individuals who are facing developmental and physical challenges. At St. Jude’s Academy of the Arts Adult Day Program, adult children with development disabilities are met with patience and empathy. You provide families with peace of mind, knowing that their loved ones are welcomed into a community and safe space that affirms their dignity and worth.
Please give at the parish using a ShareLife envelope, online through our parish website, or at sharelife.org/.
Grief is part of the human experience. At different moments in our lives, we may face the pain of losing a loved one, changes in our health or relationships, separation, or transitions that alter the way we live. These experiences can deeply affect our hearts, minds, bodies, and spirits.
The death of someone we love is especially painful. After a significant loss, we may experience many emotions, including sadness, shock, anger, loneliness, or guilt. At times, the journey through grief can feel overwhelming. Yet, healing often begins when we are able to share our sorrow with others who understand and walk alongside us with compassion and hope.
Last September, our Palliative Care and Bereavement Ministry Team (PCBM) launched the first Small Bereavement Support Groups. These groups offer a safe, caring, and confidential space for individuals to explore their grief journey in the company of others who have experienced a similar loss. The groups are small, closed-membership groups of approximately 5–8 participants and are guided by trained PCBM facilitators. Participants are grouped according to similar experiences of loss, such as the death of a spouse, parent, child, and sibling.
The Small Bereavement Support Groups are scheduled to begin during the week of October 5, 2026, and will run for 7 weeks.
If you are interested in participating or would like more information, please contact Louise Galego and Nadine Altay via the email address: bereavement@stgabrielsparish.ca

A bequest in your Will to our Church is an acknowledgment of your returning to God a portion of the gifts He has bestowed on you during your lifetime. Charitable bequests can have a favourable impact on your overall estate plan.
Bequests are NOT just for the wealthy! Consider including your parish in your Will. Let your Will reflect your Catholic values.
Please see the estate planning guide available at www.archtoronto.org to help you make your plan, and remember about the importance of using the correct legal names when arranging bequests or other legacy gifts. You may call the parish office for more information.
